What it measures

Objective measurements, in the units researchers use, each one checked against Praat, the phonetics research standard. falsetto shows what your voice is doing. What that means for your goals is yours to decide. Pitch shows first, and Advanced mode adds the rest.

  • Pitch

Your fundamental frequency (F0) in Hz or as a note, drawn live as a contour. Optional reference ranges, each with its published source.

  • Resonance

The first three formants, F1 to F3: the resonances your throat and mouth shape, tracked alongside pitch.

  • Voice quality

Harmonics-to-noise ratio, jitter and shimmer: how periodic your voice is, and how much it varies from one cycle to the next.

  • Spectral balance

Alpha ratio, Hammarberg index and spectral slope: how the energy in your voice is spread from low frequencies to high.

  • Intonation

How much your pitch moves across a phrase: its range and variability, in semitones.

  • Progress

Keep the takes you choose to and chart each measurement over time, with goals you set yourself. Compare two takes side by side.

Exercises and games

For practice, falsetto has short exercises, three pitch games and a daily streak.

  • Exercises

Step-by-step exercises for pitch and resonance. Some draw a shape on the chart for you to follow.

  • Games

Hold, Glide and Ladder: steer with your voice around a note you pick. Your best scores stay on your device.

  • A daily streak

Ten seconds of practice counts the day, and one day off a week won’t break it, so your voice can rest. On a phone or tablet, an optional reminder comes from the device itself.

Your recordings stay on your device.

Every measurement is made on your own device. Nothing you record is uploaded, because there is nowhere for it to go: on Android, falsetto doesn’t even have permission to use the internet, and on iPhone and iPad it makes no network connections. A recording leaves only if you share it yourself.

  • No account

Nothing to sign up for, and nothing to log in to.

  • No cloud, no tracking

No sync, no telemetry, no analytics and no ads.

  • Keeping audio is your choice

The first time you save a take, falsetto asks whether to keep its audio. It’s kept only if you say yes.

  • One button deletes it all

Settings shows what falsetto has stored and where. One action deletes all of it.

Made for voice training and singing

Feminization, masculinization and singing alike.

falsetto doesn’t decide what your voice should sound like. It shows you what’s there, so you, and anyone you train with, can work from real measurements. Pick Feminine, Masculine or Singer to start, and change it any time. Use it on your own, or alongside a voice coach or course. It isn’t a medical device.

Buying on iPhone or iPad will include the Mac version, when it arrives. Android, Windows and Linux are separate purchases, because falsetto has no accounts, so there’s nothing that could carry a purchase from one store to another.
